“Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish” (Matthew 25:1-2).
Natural disasters occur in our world, events beyond human control. Because of these occurrences, much attention is given to being prepared should a hurricane, tornado, or other disaster take place. We are wise to plan ahead and prepare a place of safety.
It is important to be ready for disruptive events of nature; however, it is even more important that we prepare our souls and are ready for the Rapture. There is no doubt that the coming of the Lord is eminent.
Jesus told the story of ten virgins. He called five of them wise, but the remaining five He described as foolish. They did not plan ahead. All of the ten carried lamps, but only five carried extra oil. By the time the announcement came that the bridegroom was on his way, five of them had used up the oil in their lamps. Frantically, they tried to borrow from the others, but the five wise refused as that would have left them with insufficient oil. (Read Matthew 25:1-12.)
We often see new storm cellars being built after a devastating storm passes through a community. This is done to insure a place of safety should the storm choose that path again. Had this been done beforehand, however, lives could have been spared.
Each of us needs to make personal preparation for the widely known future event of the coming of the Lord. Spiritual preparedness, like natural disaster preparation, does not allow for procrastination. We must keep the oil of the Holy Ghost filled to the brim in our lives so that we are prepared at all times to meet our Bridegroom.
Get ready, get set—and be ready to go when “the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air” (I Thessalonians 4:16-17). The trumpet will sound, and the church will be caught away. We must be prepared and ready to go! |
